Overview of hand tools and woodworking terminology. We will cover planes, axes, hatchets, saws (and how the teeth make them cut differently), mallets, chisels and more.

We all deal with hot weather in the summer, come learn how to do so easily, accurately, and with style! We will cover basic Greek style, form, and ideals then go into fabrics, colors, trims, and accessories to create a great classical and cool look. Age: 14 and up

This is strictly about the processes and equipment involved with enameling. Participants will leave the class with all the information necessary to get started on their own.

This class discusses the four guards of Italian rapier (prima, seconda, terza, and quarta) with a focus on their tactical application. Please bring a rapier.

For the absolute beginner- an overview of tools and materials for a basic scribal kit and uses in the SCA. Mostly discussion and show and tell, small amount of hands on.

This is the basic class for target archery marshals in training, and for marshals renewing their warrants.

Reinforcing an earlier class, while focusing only on the actual motions.

Get ready to attend Twelfth Night in style. Class will overview Tudor women’s fashion trends in Henry’s court, what garments you need to appear as a lady of the court, what materials you will need to make them, fit them, and wear them properly. We will also cover accoutrements with period sources and recreated samples for your perusal. Age: 14 and up

How to autocrat a successful event from the ground up. Recommended for Autocrats, potential Autocrats and Branch Seneschals.

This class will introduce the student to the types of embroidery and uses of it in period. Then will discuss modern materials used to create a period effect. There will be a free handout.

This is an introduction to Fiore's Sword in Two Hands section of his Flos Duellatorum. It will cover his basic footwork and his 12 poste. We will also cover some of his philosophy of fighting and if time allows, we will move into his first plays for sword in two hands. Bring a longsword if you have one.

The required class for all armored combat marshals.

For the absolute beginner- beginning calligraphy. Introduction to calligraphy. About half show and tell and half hands on. Overview of how to approach a calligraphic style and get started practicing a hand. Sample hands are an uncial and a textura quadrata.

A wide variety of rapier manuals both written in and about our period are available. The class will discuss a wide variety of resources ranging from the easier to find and understand resources to those better suited for more advanced students. Sources will include both hard copy and the web. The instructor's library will be available for examination. Please feel free to bring any resources you have for the show and tell roundtable portion of the class.

The Kiln will be fired up and participants will get to see the process in action. Yes, we are doing this over the lunch hour. The kiln must cool before transport so this is the only option for doing a hands-on class. Come with an idea for a one inch diameter circle. Pieces will be fired as they are ready, so be prepared to get started right away. It may not take you the whole period to finish your piece. I highly recommend participants attend the “Intro to Enameling” class during the hour prior so you are ready to get started when this class begins. Simple designs will ensure your piece gets done. The kiln must be turned off at 2:30pm regardless. Feel free to contact me ahead of time for help with ideas or questions. NOTE: There will be no eating or drinking in the vicinity of the enameling powders and masks MUST be worn. Be prepared to step to the hall or to the other end of the room if you need to eat or drink.

Introduction to basic woodworking joinery. Joinery topics will include: Mortise and tenon, dado, rabbet, dovetails and drawboring. This is a discussion class only. No tools necessary.

This class is a survey of women's overgowns from 1390 to 1440, and includes information on patterning the gowns as well as appropriate undergarments and accessories.

How to submit a bid for a Kingdom Event and the process of how a bid is chosen.

Range, it's not just for Mountains anymore. In rapier combat the range variance between yourself and your opponent can often decide the type of fight you bring. This class will teach you how to make the most of ranges that you fight in, and what range your opponent will be fighting in. This class should be taken in conjunction with the Line and Tempo classes. This class is for the intermediate fighter looking to increase their fighting skills (3+ years of fighting experience requested) Bring mask and sword.

For the absolute beginner-beginning illumination. Introduction to illumination- all drawing, no paint…hands on activity to learn basic celtic knotwork and bar and ivy.

This class is intended for gentles recreating a persona from the Nordic regions (Scandinavia, Iceland and those areas influenced by their culture) during the late 8th through early 12th centuries. Heraldry did not develop until the middle of our period, but there is no reason that a person wishing to study and recreate an earlier Norse persona should not be able to develop heraldic themes that draw from that culture while meeting requirements for SCA registration. During this class we will look at ideas to help you move beyond ""typical"" SCA heraldic designs into ones that draw on the rich culture of what is commonly called ""the Viking era"".

A practical section will introduce the following basic stitches: Tent Stitch in silk, Reverse Chain using silk, metal and Gilt Silk Twist and the 4 legged spider using metal thread.The class comes with a printed handout and kit to practice stitches.

An introduction to the shaving horse and draw-knife.

Learn about the basic garment that all Irish ladies wore in the 12th century: the leine, a tunic-style dress. Historical sources and a pattern will be discussed.

This class is the basic required class to become a warranted chatelain. Anyone who is interested in working with newcomers is welcome; whether they want to be warranted or not.

Where you establish your guard and choose your line of attack goes beyond simple distinctions of ""inside"" and ""outside"". The subtle complexities of how you position your blade relative to your body and your opponent's blade, the difference between that unbeatable attack and ending up with your sword in the dirt and your opponent's point in your face. You should plan to take this class in conjunction with the Measure Class preceding it, and the Tempo class following it. This class may overwhelm a newer fencer. Bring mask and sword.

This class will be an introduction to lampworking or making your own glass beads. It will cover safety, tools, and basic skills necessary for making glass beads. Students will learn the basic techniques for making beads. Students should dress in natural fibers without flowing sleeves.

Are you scared of using real gold on your artwork? This is the class for you! Come learn five different methods of applying flat gold to your scrolls. We will practice with parchment and patent gold -- no need to bring your own supplies. This class is designed for scribes and artists of every skill level.

Curious about the cut and construction of Elizabethan polychrome and blackworked embroidered linen garments? How were the nightcaps assembled? Were all the coifs pointy? Did the jackets have cuffs and collars? Come learn some of the shape variations seen in extant pieces, how they were sewn together, and worn. We'll also look at what were likely later alterations not to be recreated in your pieces.

This class covers documentable stitches, materials and styles from 4th to 14th century (and very briefly mention 15th and 16th)

Do you fence with a dagger, but still lose? If that's so, and you don't like it, take this class. The class will cover primary dagger guards and the appropriate responses to common attacks from each of them, drawing heavily from Italian rapier tradition. Bring a rapier and dagger. Class is primarily lecture and demonstration.

The Ancient Masters said tempo was one of the three foundations of all combat. But what is ""tempo""? How do you use it? How do you master it? You should take the Measure and Line classes which precede this. This class is geared for a fencer with 3 or more years fighting experience. Bring a mask and sword.

This hour will be about exploring the history of enameling within our period. We’ll explore the centers of excellence, techniques, and look at examples. Handout is in full color. The handout will also be available online if you prefer.

Required class to meet requirements for becoming a warranted Rapier Marshal in Atlantia. This can also be used as a refresher class for currently warranted rapier marshals. Students who are taking this for the first time should bring a printed copy of the Rapier Marshals handbook.

Baronial Pollings and Pollings of Confidence. Recommended for Baronial Seneschals.

I will show you stitches and how to go about things. I will bring a set for a few people to use (linen (tightly woven)/needles(2 tipped and 1 unpointed)/thread(crewel wool, silk and/or metalic is best) which is what the fee will cover. If you bring your own there is no charge, but make sure to bring a tightly woven, non elastic piece of fabric.

An introduction to different types of beads in the Middle East with common shapes, color and uses.

Rushing forward with your dagger out and your head down is only offensive to my sensibilities, and is more an act of desperation than of swordplay. The class will cover how to use the dagger to set up attacks with the sword, using concepts of Italian fencing as its basis. Bring a rapier and dagger. Class is primarily lecture and demonstration.

I call shenanigans on anyone who says they can't draw! This class will focus on learning how to learn to draw through fundamental concepts, theories, and exercises for drawing. Learn why your brain has sabotaged your ability to draw and ways to let your eyes do the thinking. Please bring a pencil.
