Description
Based on the principles taught in the Intro to Fiore Di Liberi class, we will dive further into Fiore's manuscript which describes a complex decision tree for Longsword use. Building on the basic Longsword forms and the dagger plays, we will study some of the close (stretto) plays with a long sword. Halfswording and controlled grappling will be discussed. The techniques studied have, with some modification, application to SCA rapier, cut and thrust, armored, and equestrian fighting. The student will gain an understanding of Fiore's instructional approach and the currently available reference material so that they may continue their studies outside of the class. Students are encouraged to bring an appropriate rattan, metal, or waster longsword. The instructor will have a few extra available for use.
