Description
This is a 50-minute class that discusses some of the basics of classical Roman poetry (meter, genre, and style) and shows why this poetry should matter to medievalists. This session will focus on two of the poets most influential on the literature of the middle ages, Ovid and Virgil. You won't come away knowing everybody's name in the Metamorphses, but you will come away with a better base of knowledge for your own reading and a lot of tools to better make sense of classical themes in medieval works.
