Description
Here’s your chance to go beyond the recorder and get your hands (and lips) on a crumhorn, a dulcian, a shawm, and other Renaissance wind instruments. Oh, and if recorder really is your thing, there will be instruments ranging from 6” (the garklein) to 6’ (the contrabass). The goal of this course is the familiarize musicians of all levels with the details and practical aspects of Renaissance wind instruments (including ideas on further research and how to find/purchase instruments), and to let participants have a chance to actually try out different instruments to see if they find a new calling. No particular skill is required, although previous experience with any wind instrument is certainly a help. The planned list of instruments on-hand includes recorders, gemshorn, crumhorn, cornamuse, shawm, dulcian, racket, cornetto and sackbut.
