Description
While living in London, England, Margaret took up the hobby of "mudlarking" - walking the shore of the Thames at low tide collecting broken, discarded, and lost items that people of previous millenia swept into the river. She carried the most puzzling, interesting and unique finds to the Museum of London where they helped identify and date them; the museum recorded some of these objects in the Portable Antiquities Scheme database. Margaret will discuss how she collected and researched her "treasures" - almost entirely old trash - and share some of the objects found. In addition to many jars of pottery sherds, her collection includes items of metal, bone, wood, and even sixteenth century leather.
