Description
Shakespeare stole a lot of good ideas from the Italian theater of Commedia dell' Arte. Commedia's golden age started in the mid-16th century with just enough time to provide a lot of great material to inspire William Shakespeare. This class will cover the basics of what makes a Commedia dell' Arte style play: Stock characters, improvisation from a plot scenario, masks, and physical comedy. After Commedia, we'll cover Shakespeare, getting into the English Theatrical renaissance during the Tudor period. From the basic organization of theater troupes to doubling, fast memorization, and other common theatrical tools, we'll look at the elements of a play familiar to an Elizabethan audience.
