Description
Throughout history, poetry has been performed by bards, kings, and lovers, in halls, courts, and stolen moments. In this course, we will explore how to present powerful and moving performances of poetry. We will look at how poetic considerations such as meter, alliteration, and rhyme can inform your reading. We will also learn acting techniques that will help you connect with and communicate the meaning of the poem. While this class focuses on poetry, many of the ideas we'll discuss are equally applicable to song and prose. We will look at an assortment of poems from various times and cultures, but if there is a piece you are working on, please feel free to bring it to class!
