Renaissance Knife Fight: Bolognese Dagger of Achille Marozzo
Instructor's Kingdom: Atlantia, Time Zone: EST
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Historical dagger is largely associated with either rondel ice-pick fights and grappling or being a parrying companion with a rapier. In Marozzo, however, we see a dagger system containing cuts, slices, and close-in trapping which appears to set itself apart in approach from most other historical dagger sources. In this class we will study the offline footwork of the Bolognese system along with some basic guard, cut, and thrust nomenclature. We will then work through the chapters of Marozzo's dagger vs dagger combat. At the end students should know the basics of Marozzo's dagger system and should begin to understand the role of both the attacks with the dagger and some basic prese (grappling) of the Bolognese system
Gear Requirements: A dagger simulator, preferably at least 10" in blade length. Some of the plays work better with a cross but a rondel simulator will suffice. Mask, gloves.
