The Kharja is a couplet that functions as the concluding lines to the medieval Andalusian poetry form of the muwashshah. Kharjas were often reused for different poems and written in colloquial language, making this a great entry point for writing and thinking about Andalusian poetry. We will discuss the form and look at examples of in-period kharjas. Students will compose their own karjas and share them with each other on a voluntary basis. We will also discuss workshop etiquette and constructive feedback. |
