Costume and Textiles
The Perniö headpiece ca. 1150 is comprised of an 8 strand braid and bronze coils. The original and reconstruction are on display in the National Museum of Finland.
In this class you get to learn from my braiding struggles. You will learn how to construct the braid, and see the design of a tool I've engineered to make this braiding easy-peasy.
This will be a live class on the Google Meet platform, and also recorded for future reference.
If you wish to participate in the braiding
portion please have 4x 1 yard long strands of yarn; any fiber type will work for learning but the thicker yarn is easier to use and see. Also, 1x 12 inch piece of yarn and something stationary to tie on to (c-clamp, table leg, safety pin to your pants, lamp... Almost anything will work).
