Charny asks, who gets the horse?
Instructor's Kingdom: Atlantia, Time Zone: EST
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
Geoffroi de Charny wrote his “Book of Chivalry” at the behest of Jean II of France during the Hundred Years War at a time when the king wanted to improve the quality of knights. Less well known, Charny also wrote over 130 “Questions concerning the joust, tournaments and war” to explore the correct actions of men-at-arms in a variety of martial situations. The class will not cover all the questions, but it will try to reveal the general themes and problems that Charny deemed worthy of discussion, many of which involve who gets the horse when the fight is done.
