The model for the Anglo-Saxon ideal of a queen can be found in the epic saga "Beowulf". Starting there, this class will examined what qualities an ideal Anglo-Saxon queen possessed, what her role in a royal court was, and the actions and activities she carried out to fulfill that role.. From there we will look at several historic Anglo-Saxon queens like Elfrida and Aethelflaed to see how they met, or didn't meet, those queenly ideals. |
