Description
A brief survey of Islamic playing cards in the SCA time period. Class will discuss how playing cards reached the Islamic world, the role the Islamic world played in the transmission of playing cards to Europe, and examine surviving examples of Islamic playing cards. Students will be afforded the opportunity to view images of surviving artifacts that are not yet available to the general public. There will be some brief discussion of how to play card games with these cards. Due to publication restrictions on some of the images that will be shared, this class will not be recorded.
