Description
Learn about the numerous finds of Nalbinding found in Egypt from the Ptolemaic, Roman, Late Antique, Coptic, and Islamic eras as well as a few contemporaneous examples from surrounding regions. The ~110 item collection consists of primarily socks. Class will consist of 30 minute pre-recorded presentation entitled "Charting the Nalbinding of the Nile" first presented at the "Current Research in Textile Archaeology along the Nile" seminar January 21, 2019 and then continue with further examination of images of extant items and a brief demonstration of the cross-knit looping variant of nalbinding. This class will not be recorded, but the pre-recorded section will remain online.
