Description
Many examples of pottery found in Anglo-Saxon and Norse graves were not locally produced. Where did they come from, how did they get there, and who made them? This class will be an introductory overview of imported pottery in Britain and Scandinavia from the 6th-10th centuries C.E., looking primarily at Frankish and Slavic wares, and will discuss the shapes, decorations, and techniques used to produce these vessels. I don't plan to record the class, but a transcript and a PDF of the slides will be available online afterward. A PDF of the PowerPoint can be downloaded at: https://farolfus.files.wordpress.com/2021/02/importpottery.pdf A transcript keyed to the slides is here: https://farolfus.files.wordpress.com/2021/02/importpottery_transcript.pdf
