Description
Until the advent of criminal toxicology in the late 1800 poison was a very popular way of getting rid of people you didn't like, despite being criminalized both in secular law and by the tenets of Christianity. "Thou shalt not suffer a poisoner to live" was the original phrase in the Bible, until witches became a larger concern for the Church. In this class I will discuss the most popular poisons (and some of the more exotic), and the extreme methods people went to in the hopes of avoiding them... or not. They knew in the ancient world that toxicity was dose-dependent, but there are consequences for everything which aren't always immediately apparent. Notes will be available online before the class starts. **Class will not be recorded
