Description
An exploration of poisons in period, mostly in Western Europe but with some notes on other regions. We will discuss popular perceptions about poison, and theoretical and real remedies for poison. How medieval people thought that poisons worked, methods of finding poisons in the wild, and processes for preparing a poisonous draught. Most of the poisons we will discuss in this class will be poisonous plants. The use of poisons such as mercury and arsenic in medicine, and where those poisons could be found will also be covered. Some poisons that were thought to exist but were an illness or just were not a real poison will also be covered. This class will not be recorded
