Description
By 1600 there were a wide variety of pumps and hoists in common use in Europe. Most of these included design elements which are still in use around the world today. In this class I will provide an overview of the design and capabilities of period pumps and hoists focusing on Europe in the Renaissance. We will look at the components of the machines, how they were powered and what their capacity likely was. For both the pumps and hoists we will look at the various classes of designs, how they were different, and pros and cons of the different types. This includes likely applications such as in construction, cargo handling or mining. I will present the material on Zoom and will not be recording the class.
