Description
A brief survey of several SCA-period musical instruments, demonstrating each instrument along with a brief history and description of how each instrument is played. The instruments covered will include Nyckelharpa (Sweden), Crwth (Wales), Rebec, Vielle (Medieval fiddle), Ukulele/Renaissance Guitar, Recorders, Portative Organ, Krumhorn, Psaltery, Harp, and others. INSTRUCTORS: Efenwealt Wystle is a minstrel from the late 12th century in the retinue of Robert de Beaumont, 3rd Earl of Leicester. In the SCA Efenwealt is primarily a bard, merchant, and music producer. Scott Vaughan works for a small creative services/communications agency managing campaigns for industry sponsored Phase I-IV clinical research trials. He also dabbles in commercial music/video production and performs as part of the Blibbering Humdingers at fandom conventions, filk festivals, and such. Simon de Spaldyng is a 14th-century mariner, merchant, and musician from Lincolnshire, England. Long ago (circa AS XII), Simon was Master of Music for the Kingdom of the West, and Master of Sciences for the Principality of the West. Simon Spalding is a professional musician and historian, who has performed at Renaissance Faires, SCA events, and museums throughout the United States and Europe.
