Description
The purity of the silver used in coins and jewelry was a major concern. Especially with the coinage as the coins represented the direct authority of the king. And whether the goal was to raise the purity of silver or to correctly debase it, having it pure was the starting point. This class will examine the most common method of silver purification, cupellation. We will talk about evidence for its usage. Scientifically what the process involves. The manufacture of the cupel from period sources. And finally, a short video clip that shows the actual process as done by myself. There will be time for questions from attendees.
