Description
Surface couching is one of the oldest and most versatile embroidery techniques known. It is found across various cultures and spans hundreds of years. This embroidery technique can be as simple as a single thread couched, or as complicated as several threads couched with multiple colors. In this class we will look at images of a few extant historical examples, along with pictures of surface couching applications within the SCA. Following the brief lecture there will be a hands-on portion where students can try out the basic technique, resulting in a finished, or mostly finished belt bag panel which can later be finished and kept, or gifted. A few of my examples can be viewed on the embroidery pages at https://shinystitches.files.wordpress.com * This is a great foundation class to have before moving on to more advanced styles. Supply List and motif can be found here: https://shinystitches.files.wordpress.com/2021/06/ua-107-supply-list-for-hildegards-surface-couching-embroidery-class.pdf Class will not be recorded.
