Medieval Muslim women were disenfranchised and lived in seclusion. We take that accepted knowledge as true. So I dug into the lives of Persian women during the Abbasid Caliphate to see if it held up. (Spoilers: it didn't!) Join me to find out just how wrong I was!

This class will cover what we know of the origin of the cookbook, the available foodstuffs of the Iberian Peninsula in the 16th century, tips for reading and redacting recipes, and a collection of redactions from the book, both sweet and savory. Stuck in England? Come to Italy to learn Contentezza d’Amore! A balletto from the 16th century by Fabrio Caroso. The name translates into “the Happiness of Love”. This dance is for 2 people, but can easily be done alone.

It is a fascinating journey from use of simple bitter herbs to complex blends, heavily influenced by Indian, and eventually Islamicate perfumery.

See how these art styles shifted over time, develop a sense of the global connection by looking at how those styles related to those across the broader world, and gain some practical tools to use this knowledge in your scrollwork. So you're a warranted marshal; now what? Our official marshal classes talk all about running events, but never manage to discuss what most marshals end up doing: running practice. This class will contain tips, tricks, and general guidance for running a regular local practice. This is not an official marshal track class and does not count towards any warrant renewals. While I will be approaching this from a rapier perspective, given my experience, large amounts of this class will likely be applicable to any marshal discipline.
