Learn to tie 5 knots from heraldic sources
The history of knot tying predates our current ability to discover what knots people used and how they might have tied them. In this class, we will practice 5 knots that we positively know are period, because they are part of period European heraldry, from 800 ce to 1400 ce. Come join me to learn period, and useful, knots.
Best for Children with some knot tying experience or be over 10 years old. Children should be accompanied by an adult due to the multi step instructions and the limited time to practice each different knot. 15 copies of the handout will be provided, sign up to get a copy emailed to you. |

Rapid Rotation on Raising Revenue
I'm going to talk about a (small) sample of different ways that period governments raised revenue, from salt monopolies to sophisticated property taxes to expropriating the bankers (or the Templars, or the monasteries, or really anyone else with money). If you've ever read about tax farmers and wondered why early states used them, this is the class for you. By default I'll just talk about cool ways governments found to make money, but if people are interested I can talk a little bit about some of the broader economic and geopolitical factors that different forms of revenue cause. |

Economics of the Farm
How did the condition of a region's economy impact farming in that area? How did the condition of agriculture in a region impact the larger economy? We see merchants use availability of varied produce as a lure to attract investors and workers. We see innovations brought along trade routes fundamentally change farming practices. We'll take a broad overview of this complex topic to get just a taste of the co-dependence between merchant, farmer, and prince. |

Cute Gresley - ones Atlantia doesn't do so much - easy
First there is Eglamowr, dead easy, commonly done in MIdrealm not in Atlantia.
Then there is What so Ever ye Will, really easy cute would go well with the mix we already do.
Then there is Armynn, has been done but needs more use the funky hey is wonderful.
Next there is Mobray, with the earliest triple that splits and comes back together, a little harder but I love it so we will do it.
Finally there will be Sufferance, of the adorable opening split and come back, it has more moves to remember but all of them are easy. |

Leoncello in two versions
Leoncello was one of the most popular of the 15th century Italian balli choreographed by Domenico da Piacenza, so popular that we have records of it being done in the 16th century. However, the exact dance seems to have changed and mutated as time passed. We will first learn Leoncello as written in Domenico's own manuscript, and then learn the version described in a letter sent home to Nuremberg by a German visitor to Italy in 1517. A familiarity with the basic steps of 15th century Italian dance will be helpful in taking this class but is not necessary. |
