This class will cover the History of flower arranging from 25,000 BC up to about the 16th Century to include some information on how they were used in some of the different cultures of the known world.

This is the class necessary to become a Thrown Weapons Marshal along with field marshaling 101. Class will include weapons safety, field lay out, Target construction, minor safety, and all aspects of throwing axes, knives, and spears.

Stained glass and rose windows in particular have been a source of great beauty and inspiration throughout the centuries. What are the origins and meaning of the Gothic Rose Window? How were they made? Learn about one of the most beautiful and inspirational aspects of medieval architecture. See how this art form can be interpreted and used in the context of the current Middle Ages.

So you've got a registered name and a very rough idea of who and what you are. What comes next? Well, now it's time to flesh out the skeleton of your SCA alter ego. Using worksheets from "Creating Personas: A Laura Crockett Workbook", we will go into considerable detail about what you need to discover about your persona in order to make him or her into a living, breathing, fully-developed human being. Since I am not a skilled actor, I can't teach you how to live in character at SCA events, but I can help you dig into your imagination and make your alter ego become more vividly alive, if only within your own mind.

A brief history of the Highland great kilt, what years the kilt was worn during the SCA timeframe, instructions on how to don and wear the kilt, suggestions on tartans, ideas for accessories.

Ready to take your garb to the next level? This hands-on class will cover period stitches useful to basic clothing construction, including running stitch, back stitch, and hem stitch. We will also discuss where and how to use the different types of stitches, and what threads to use for the most accurate reconstruction of period garments. Needles, thread and fabric will be provided; please bring small scissors or thread snips. Both adults and youth welcome.

This class will look at aromatic oils and its their place throughout history. We will look at a timeline of how oils were used and their impact on past civilizations.

Have you ever visited a museum and wished you could touch the displays? Here’s your chance! Wade Allen will bring selections from his collection of antique [arms and] armor for students to examine, try on, and photograph. Original 16th century items will include helmets, breastplates, gauntlets and more. Curator: Master Will of Wiltshire. Assistant curator: Master Eldrid Tremayne.

This is the required course to become warranted as an Atlantian Minister of the Lists. We’ll cover general procedures, forms, event prep, reports, and common issues encountered at the MoL tables.

An introduction to casting metals. Lecture will cover materials, preparation, carving, casting and clean up.

Want to make some warm woolies to keep you from getting too cold this winter? Then come learn how to knit! We'll start with the basics: casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, casting off. The project for this class will be a potholder, which will allow us to practice these skills. Please bring along a pair of size 7 or 8 knitting needles. I find bamboo is easiest to learn with, but if you have a pair of a different material already, do not feel it necessary to purchase a new pair.

Will demonstrate, practice and provide drills for basic fighting stance and movement. Class is intended for basic level fighters but all can benefit from an extra look. - Students should bring list legal armor and weapons. No blade contact is to expected but drills may advance far enough to facing opponents.

This class will be a lecture on the evolution of heraldry in stained glass. Discussion will cover simple pieced glass windows through the use of enamels, and secular vs. church uses of the glass. A basic understanding of heraldry is assumed, no knowledge of stained glass techniques required.

An introduction to the arts of storytelling, including story selection, preparation, and telling tips.

Ready to lace yourself up in period style, or finish the buttonholes on that cotehardie? Don't know how to use the buttonhole attachment that came with your sewing machine? Don't worry -- your medieval tailor or seamstress wouldn't know how to use it, either. What would he or she have done? Stitched up some fine, strong buttonholes and eyelets by hand -- and you can do the same. Needles, thread and fabric will be provided; please bring small scissors or thread snips. Both adults and youth welcome.

Learn how herbs have been preserved throughout history. Many of those techniques are still used today.

We will start from the beginning so no experience is necessary. Dances will include Upon a Summer's Day, Black Nag, and Hearts Ease. Rufty-Tufty, and Gathering Peascods will fill in if time permits.

The discipline specific required training class for rapier MITs or for rapier marshals wishing to satisfy their training update. Learn the process of becoming a rapier marshal, recent and upcoming rules changes, and get your marshaling questions answered.

After SCA combat, heraldry and heraldic display add the most distinctive visual elements to any SCA event or demo. From identifying people on the tourney field, to tracking down someone's Pennsic encampment; from recognizing the home branch of that army, to appreciating the Peer that leads them... There's simply a variety of Armory that everyone in Atlantia should know, respect, and recognize. Here's your chance to learn about them.

Participants will build working models of a period style water wheel powered trip hammer. Will talk about the history of period engineering as well as learn some practical applications.

Do those black and white dots make you dizzy? Come with a melodic instrument you know something about (preferably know how to play-and voices are instruments!!) and I'll show you how to connect the musical dots! I'll also answer questions you may have about notation.

In today’s day and age, a covered head does not carry the same significance in everyday clothing that it has in years past. For centuries proper headwear was a necessary part of day to day life. Within the SCA, a properly covered head can take your garb from “Nice” to “Wow!” If you are a beginner with a late period persona or would like to make a late period garment, you to can make your garb complete with easy patterns on how to make a proper hat.

This class will demonstrate, practice and develop drills for students in the basic blade positions both attack and defense. Techniques demonstrated will provide students either refreshers or basic combat techniques. While the class is intended at the basic level all fighters will benefit here. Students should bring list legal armor and weapons.

Dances will include Grimstock, Scotch Cap, Goddesses, and if time permitts we will work on Picking of Sticks

Hands on painting with natural pigments used in 15th century Italy with exploration with Glair, Size, Egg Tempera, and Casein binders.

A beginner's class on mead making. It's simple, it's fun, it's yummy.With a few basic supplies you will be well on your way to making mead, marvelous mead.

Want to know how to run a Magic Tourney? Or a multiple-pod round-robin tourney... all on index cards? Interested in some of the more “unusual” tourney formats - but were afraid to ask? This class will discuss how to properly run many of the non-elimination-style tournaments used in Atlantia.

You braved the heraldic consult table, filled out the forms, paid the fees, waited what seemed like ages for that acceptance letter in the mail, and finally passed your arms! Now what? You might think your awesome new armory is limited to appearing on scrolls. But having your unique armory opens the door to a wonderful world of display opportunities in just about every SCA-related thing you do. Best of all, it doesn't just make your SCA experience better, it improves the Dream for every single person who sees it.

This class will cover period solutions to the fast growth rate of children. It will take an in depth look at a Sideless Surcoat for girls and a Transitional Garment (aka the G-63) for Boys, with an overall goal of making garments that will last for two years with minimal alterations.

Three Blind Mice is period! Learn to sing mostly late period, easy rounds to add another layer of authenticity to our game. Ability to read music helpful, but not required.

How to put an event bid together for a Kingdom event. The class will include time for feedback on how the process is currently working and possible improvements.

To teach you how to do reversable blackwork. This is utilized with cuffs, collars and tokens. The supply packet contains what you need to start learning how to do reversible blackwork, materials and instructions.

This class will provides fighters with a practical knowledge of distance, range and fighting tempo. Demonstration and rehearsal will provide fighters at all levels a better understanding of initiative and some practical application skills. Students should bring list legal armor and weapons. While this class is a basic level fighters of all level will benefit from assistance offered in measure and tempo.

Gentlemen were expected to learn a set of dances. We will include Tinternell, Black Alman, and Madame Cecilia, if time permits we will do others.

This class will cover the forms and procedures used in the growing Equestrian division - procedures, forms, general tips, and troubleshooting. Everything an MoL needs to know when working with the Atlantian Cavalry.

Class covers; historical sources, picking out the right feather, conditioning it, cutting the quill and actually writing with it. Preparation of Period Ink explained but not made in class. Students are encouraged to bring a pen knife or a #10 Xacto knife blade and holder. I will have extras available for use.

This class is inteneded as a discussion of basic combat maneuver principles that are proven to work. Students will discuss and leave with an understanding of developing melee drills and scenarios for small units. A better understanding of culminating combat power at the schwerpunkt will be gained.

The promotion of both participation in, and the study of period hunting techniques, particularly the historical role and utilization of sighthounds in the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

Tips for first time attendees to bardics, for performers who want to improve the bardics they are at, and for organizers who want to make their bardic as fun as possible. Handouts include a novice bardic notebook and CD.

A discussion of the origin of ale and beer:where they originated,their significance in ancient and medieval times. Will also discuss when "ale" became "beer", the introduction of hops, and a comparison of some medieval and modern brewing methods. Based partly on "A History of the World in 6 Glasses" by Tom Standage.

The basics of how to be a group seneschal. Required for all group seneschals.

Some experience is desirable. Dances will probably include Whirligig and Parsons Farewell, and Picking of Sticks if not done in Intermediate and time permitting.

Examine a timeline of the 100 Year War, more specifically, the events leading up to the war, the rulers involved, key political events, and important battles.

I'll cover the basics of cordial making plus a little history and what ingredients help get you close to period recipes.

No experience is necessary. We will focus on two Basse dances; Ly Bens Distonys, and Dance de Cleves, if time permits we will do some easy Italian dances.
