Learn the lively 16th century Italian dance Chiara Stella. A favorite cascarda with basic steps and intermediate figures. The steps and technique will be taught. All levels are welcome. This class will not be recorded.

Whether after a sparring session, during a video review, or mid class, receiving and implementing feedback is critical to skill development. However, the process of hearing that feedback, and more importantly understanding that feedback, is challenging for many people. This class focuses on research and best practices from psychology that are applicable to giving and receiving feedback on a rapier list.

This class will discuss the timeline of how modern-day Korea was developed and how dance was performed both in a royal setting and also how dancing was done in private settings such as villages. We will also discuss how other nations helped to create a Korean style of music and dance during different time frames of existence.

Missing the forest for the trees? This class will broadly discuss the royal forest system in England, with a focus on the development of English forest law, the restrictions imposed by those laws, and the organization of forests and their administrators.

Looking to start your own local dance practice? Interested in getting out of a teaching rut? This class will review lessons learned from the first two years of a new dance practice, with a focus on teaching to a room full of beginners, and include an open-mic Q&A session where dance teachers of all (or no) experience can ask questions and/or share advice.

This class will discuss the basics of cooking on a campfire, including the fire itself, the pros and cons of different types of cooking equipment, and some ideas for simple dishes to start out with. Content will focus on medieval western Europe (my persona is a 14th century Englishman), but other periods and cultures may be mentioned.

“The island abounds in milk and honey” is The Venerable Bede’s praise of Ireland in the opening chapter to The Ecclesiastical History of the English People (731 CE). While the near-contemporary Irish classic Táin Bó Cúailnge (The Cattle Raid of Cooley; ca. 670-725 CE) is a well-known exemplar from whence the milk may come, it is the lesser known, and slightly earlier, Irish law text Bechbretha (‘bee-judgments’; ca. 650 CE) that may inform us as to the honey. This class will explore manuscript, archaeological, artistic, and ethnographic sources to illuminate the culture and practice of beekeeping in Early Ireland.
