And Then There Were None...
Medieval attitudes towards animals certainly reflected virtually every hue of the emotional spectrum. Whether through their extreme usefulness to Medieval man, or their intolerable annoyance, many animal species didn't survive into the modern era. This class will take a look at some of what we've lost, specifically, animals that were rendered extinct in the Middle Ages. This class will introduce you to animals that your personas might have known, but we never will. |

Introduction to Natural Philosophy in the Middle Ages
In this course we will start by defining what we mean by Natural Philosophy. (To help you decide if you want to take the course or not, it encompasses physics, chemistry, geology, biology, and meteorology, among other subjects. No math involved, though!) We will then spend some time talking about the founder of Natural Philosophy, Aristotle. After briefly considering the influences of Islam/Muslim and the Latin Translators, we will examine the Medieval Natural Philosophy as taught in the Universities of Oxford, Paris, and Bologna from 1200 to 1500. Finally we will conclude with a discussion of how Natural Philosophy empowered the Scientific Revolution and became the “Mother of All Sciences”. |

Choosing a Registerable SCA Name
Names are important. They are often the first thing other people have on which to form an opinion of us. Princess Daisy of the Purple Unicorns might not give the best impression. (No, really. Someone wanted that name . . . ) We can invest a lot of time and emotion in coming up with a name. However, if it doesn't follow reasonable historical practice or general SCA standards, it won't be registered. In this class we'll discuss what the SCA requires in a name and what was generally historically done. |

You need to eat at events, but what are you going to bring? What about feast? This class will not only cover feast gear choices, but table manners and the kinds of food eaten by the Elizabethan persona. We'll talk about choices for lunches and off-board feasting, setting the table to create a period atmosphere, and how to grocery shop, so that you don't have to spend hours making all the food yourself. Note: Food samples will be provided, including wheat, unpasteurized dairy, and (cooked) meat products. Please be aware of possible allergies. |

Creating a magical stage presence
All performances have several things in common, they are:1. A reason to be in front of an audience in the first place.
2. Hopefully a talent to display
3. A thought out “program” or train of thought to showcase
What many people overlook are the techniques that build a memorable presence on stage. Today, we will take a look at several tried and true techniques that will increase the YOU in your performance. I am a magician, but these same techniques hold true for singers, dancers, heck even politicians. This class will include several limited “class participation” exercises, simply because I believe that the average person remembers practically nothing they hear, but a significant portion of the things they DO. Shy people may be traumatized. |
